What is a VIN number?
Vehicle Identification Number stands for "VIN". This vin number is a universal serial number provided to every car by the vehicle manufacturer. Within the 17-digit number are different codes that indicate the car's make and model, a serial number, where the vehicle was manufactured, and even information about optional add-ons such as a sun roof.

Extended Warranty Tips #3
Extended warranties are insurance policies between a warranty company and a car buyer to help cover future repair costs. The warranty company will pay for repairs listed in your particular warranty. If your car purchase doesn't come with an extended warranty, you may want to purchase one separately. You can bypass car dealerships and buy a warranty directly from the warranty provider without ever having to show them the car. This can save you several hundred dollars.

Used Car Buying Tips #5
Protect yourself by thoroughly checking out the used car you want to buy. Make sure that all visible VIN numbers are the same on the car. The VIN number can be ingraved on windows and listed on stickers in various places on the car (inside the doors, the dash, the trunk, engine, and quarter panels). The History of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

In the 1950's the American automobile manufacturers began stamping identifying numbers on cars and their parts. The vehicle identification number has become referred to as the "VIN". The purpose was to give an description of the vehicle when mass production numbers were starting to climb in very high numbers. Research has shown that early VIN numbers came in all sorts of variations which depended on the individual manufacturer at that time.

In the 1980's, the National highway Traffic Safety Administration began requiring that all road vehicles must contain a 17 character VIN number. This established the new VIN system for major vehicle manufacturers as it is known in modern times. Thus was established the "Fingerprint" style number for each unique vehicle which rolls off the assembly line today.
